Crime Stoppers has had a long history with law enforcement in Corpus Christi and the surrounding area. Every year since it's inception, the non profit organization has given thousands of dollars for tips leading to the arrest of wanted criminals. As a means to raise some of the necessary funds Crime Stoppers will allow members of the public to be the investigators at their annual Murder Mystery Fundraiser.

This is the third annual event to help raise funds for the organization that offers rewards for tips that lead to the arrest of crime suspects. Crime Stoppers of Corpus Christi use the event to bring a spotlight to local judges and allow the public to meet them in more relaxed public setting. According to Louis Williams, many of the judges allocate portions of their collected probation fees to help fund Crime Stoppers. Williams, who is the vice chair of the the non profit, said, “We wanted to show the judges our appreciation and get the community to meet them. We decided to do a more fun interactive event.”

The murder mystery follows a format similar to the film “Clue” which was inspired by the board game of the same name. The MC of the event plays the role of the butler and each table makes up one team. During the course of the evening, attendees are given clues to help them solve the case by the night's end. The winning table receives baskets with similar gifts for each individual on the team. “They get to interact and see how Crime Stoppers works. It's a lot of work but it's a lot of fun,” said Williams.

The Murder Mystery fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday, August 25, from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at La Stanza Downtown Event Center located at 615 Mesquite Street in Corpus Christi. Individual tickets are $75.00 and table sponsorships are $750.00 for victim status, $1,500.00 for killer status, and $2,000.00 for law status.
