SAN ANTONIO – BCFS Health and Human Services has named Marissa Cano as Regional Director of South Texas, an area encompassing McAllen, Harlingen and Corpus Christi.

Cano joined BCFS in 2012 as a site coordinator for the McAllen Transition Center. There, she provided supervision to all staff at the center, led outreach to the local community, and facilitated both the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) and the Caregivers As Partners for Emancipation (CAPE) program. In August of 2013, Cano became the Program Director and Director of Community Services at the McAllen Transition Center. Her role was comprehensive, spanning internal policy, personnel supervision, management of client services, and more. Cano’s impact on BCFS-McAllen has been deep and far-reaching, and she brings valuable experience to the table as a Regional Director.

As Regional Director of South Texas, Cano will oversee programs and services of BCFS’ Community Services Division that serve youth in foster care, as well as youth and families at risk of abuse, neglect, homelessness and other challenges. She will conduct comprehensive management of the South Texas region, managing budgets, building community relationships, directing capacity augmentation and identifying both public and private support opportunities with corporations, foundations and individual donors. Cano will also promote collaboration with other community organizations in order to grow the impact of services provided throughout the South Texas area.

“When you do the kind of work that impacts lives on a daily basis, and your services are spread throughout the state, it is imperative that you have excellent leadership in place with experience, management skills, care and compassion to ensure quality service delivery,” said Celeste Garcia, Executive Director of BCFS’ Community Services Division. “Marissa is a team player whose primary focus is the individuals and families we serve.”
