Cadets from the Tuloso-Midway NJROTC unit took time off from their Thanksgiving Holidays to help their community.

On a blustery, chilly Saturday morning, the cadets collected more than 200 pounds of trash along the Corpus Christi-Portland Causeway. As a reward for their superior efforts, they were given the opportunity to earn their Sea Cruise Ribbon by riding the Aransas Pass Ferry.

Many cadets were able to see a few Dolphins frolicking in the chilly waters and Brown Pelicans swooping into the water looking for a fresh fish dinner. On the way home, and to maximize all available educational opportunities, the cadets were taken to the Taft, Texas wind farm to get an up close and personal view of one of the power generating wind mills. They learned first-hand what “green energy” looks like and sounds like as they listened to the “swishing” of the huge fan blades as they moved through the air creating electricity from the wind.
