Kingsville - On April 4, South Texas Specialized Crimes and Narcotics Task Force agents conducted a traffic stop on a 2009 Chrysler Sebring traveling south on U.S. Highway 77.
During a subsequent search, agents discovered numerous bundles of U.S. currency hidden inside the gas tank of the vehicle.
The suspected drug proceeds were seized and the driver, U.S. citizen Kalisha Deary, from Taylor, Texas; was arrested and booked at the Kleberg County Jail on state money laundering violations.
The currency was later counted and determined to be $530,020.
Based upon a follow up investigation, agents believe the money was being transported from the United States to Mexico.
