MDA camp held its annual Firefighter night this past Monday. Corpus Christi firefighters almost had as much as the campers, organizers said.
At the MDA Camp, kids socialize with others, sharing the same needs and experience as them. The camp offers a fun and safe outdoor experience, along with opportunities to engage in a variety of activities such as horseback riding, swimming, adaptive sports, arts and crafts, camp dances and much more.
As a volunteer, firefighters worked one on one with campers, providing around the clock care, close supervision and the attention that children with muscle disease need. Some of the responsibilities included pushing wheelchairs, meeting the daily needs of each child and also become a youngster’s friend for a week.
