The Corpus Christi Association of REALTORS® celebrated its 34th anniversary of helping kids by holding its annual Walk with Pride Foundation Program at Payless Shoe Source in La Palmera Mall.
For the past 34 years, Association members have generously donated dollars to give away pairs of shoes to some of the neediest children in Corpus Christi. Back in 1983, when Walk-with-Pride began, the goal was to collect sufficient dollars to be able to give away 100 pairs of shoes - a lofty goal at the time, but one that has been surpassed many times over in the ensuing years.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Val Valentine, who started the program 33 years ago and the Association’s Public Relations Committee, the dollars donated from the REALTOR® community and the kids served has increased dramatically. The organization served approximately 1,350 children at the events.
The shoes go to children and families who are in definite need, as all the children who arrived at Payless on Tuesday participated in the program and qualified through Nueces County and Jim Wells Health and Human Services Department.
In addition to the shoes, each child was given a bag filled with school supplies.
