MIDLOTHIAN — After a record-setting season that carried the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars into the 4A regional volleyball finals, 10 ladies received District 8-4A honors.

Three Jaguars received District 8-4A superlatives, which included Hitter of the Year Julia Valdez, Defensive Player of the Year Katie Chambers, and Server of the Year Tori Needels.

Both Katie Greer and Kelsey Carpenter received All-District 8-4A 1st team nods. Hannah Larson, Karena Tipton and Rachel Richie found their names on the All-District 8-4A 2nd team, while Grayce Davis and Kaylee Rutenbar were named All-District 8-4A honorable mentions.

As a team, Heritage set school records for wins in a season (33), playoff wins (4) and the program's highest ranking in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A poll (No. 2). The Jaguars finished their season with a three-set loss to No. 2 (49-2) Glen Rose in the 4A Region I Finals.

Julia Valdez — Hitter of the Year

Julia Valdez completed the season with a team-high 353 kills on 888 swings and just 107 errors for a .277 hitting percentage. The senior average 2.5 kills per set this season.

When on the back row, Valdez accounted for a team-high 535 digs and added 41 aces.

Katie Chambers — Defensive Player of the Year

Junior libero Katie Chambers broke a team-high 706 serves with just 63 errors in 140 sets. Chambers finished second on the team behind Valdez with 512 digs and 73 errors.

Tori Needels — Server of the Year

Not only did Tori Needels lead the Jaguars with 847 assists on the season, but the senior also posted a team-high 95 aces. She accounted for 153 service points and converted on 94.7 percent of her serves (746 attempts, 40 errors).

Katie Greer — 1st team

Katie Greer finished third on the team this year with 310 kills on 810 swings for a .244 hitting percentage. The senior also recorded just 21 errors on her 137 serves received and added 39 blocks.

Kelsey Carpenter — 1st team

Kelsey Carpenter appeared in all 140 sets for the Jaguars this season. The 6-foot-3 sophomore recorded 314 kills at a .269 clip. She also added 124 digs and 53 blocks.

Hannah Larson — 2nd team

Sophomore Hannah Larson finished fourth on the team with 239 kills on 533 attempts for a hefty .355 hitting percentage. Even more impressive, Larson led the Jaguars with 146 total blocks, which included 124 solo blocks. She averaged 9.7 blocks per match and 1.7 kills per set after appearing in all 140 sets this season.

Karena Tipton — 2nd team

Junior middle blocker, Karena Tipton finished second on the team with 137 total blocks (112 solos) this season for the Jaguars. She also accounted for 221 kills (.266 hitting percentage) and 37 aces.

Rachel Richie — 2nd team

Junior setter Rachel Richie appeared in 137 of the 140 sets this season for the Jaguars and posted 667 assists — second on the team to Needels (847). She also chipped in 30 aces and 187 digs from the back row.

Grayce Davis — Honorable Mention

Grayce Davis, a junior outside hitter, notched 79 kills, 22 blocks and 31 digs for the Jaguars this season.

Kaylee Rutenbar — Honorable Mention

Sophomore defensive specialist Kaylee Rutenbar played in 41 sets for the Jaguars this season, accounting for 133 digs, 3.2 digs per set and 119 serve receptions.
