CORPUS CHRISTI - The Coastal Bend’s own Steven James & The Jaded took home the “New Band of the Year” award Saturday night at the 2018 Texas Regional Radio & Music Awards.
The premier Texas awards show recognizes the biggest names in Texas songwriters, live musicians and radio personalities. Arlington Music Hall in Arlington, Texas was packed Saturday as groups from around the state turned out to honor each other.
Steven James & The Jaded beat out five other up-and-coming bands to win “New Band of the Year” which came as a big surprise to the group, said lead-singer Steven James.
“We really didn’t have any expectations of winning, it was a total surprise,” said Steven James. “So when I heard our name being called, I couldn’t believe it! It was a huge honor.”
Steven James & The Jaded caught the ears of the Texas music scene in early 2016 when their debut single “Weak in the Knees” broke the Top 40 on the Texas Music Chart. Since then, the group has scored another Top 40 hit, and two more in the Top 75; and was nominated last fall for “Country Song of the Year” at the Texas Country Music Association Awards.
“It’s been a great year for us and we’re just really grateful for all the votes from Texas Regional Radio Members,” Steven James added. “This means a lot because it was other bands and DJs that voted for us.”
The group will appear live in South Texas on Saturday, March 17th at the St. Patty’s Day Block Party, and again on Thursday, April 26th at the Corpus Christi Rodeo with the Josh Abbott Band. They are currently in the studio working on their third album which will drop in early summer.
