Corpus Christi – Motorists should continue to expect nightly closures next week as construction progresses on SH 358 (South Padre Island Drive).

Work will require nightly closures of all eastbound mainlanes between Everhart Road and South Staples Street, two westbound mainlanes between South Staples Street and Weber Road, the Weber Road intersection under SH 358, the eastbound on-ramp east of Everhart Road, and one eastbound frontage road lane east of Weber Road.

These closures are scheduled overnight Sunday, Aug. 12, through overnight Thursday, Aug. 16, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. All work is weather permitting:

Weber Road Intersection Closures

Sunday, Aug. 12, through Monday, Aug. 13: Weber Road under SH 358 will close nightly as crews perform overpass upgrades.    Drivers traveling northbound on Weber Road will detour via the eastbound frontage road to the turnaround at Everhart Road.

   Drivers traveling southbound on Weber Road will detour via the westbound frontage road to the turnaround at Carroll Lane.

Eastbound Mainlane Closures

Sunday, Aug. 12, through Thursday, Aug. 16: All SH 358 eastbound mainlanes will be closed between Everhart Road and South Staples Street for pavement work. Drivers will exit the freeway at Everhart Road, travel on the frontage road through the Everhart Road and South Staples Street intersections, then re-enter the freeway east of South Staples Street. Westbound Mainlane Closures

Sunday, Aug. 12, through Monday, Aug. 13: Two SH 358 westbound mainlanes will be closed between Everhart Road and Weber Road while crews perform upgrades to the Weber Road overpass. Tuesday, Aug. 14, through Thursday, Aug. 16: Two SH 358 westbound mainlanes will be closed between South Staples Street and Everhart Road while crews perform work on freeway barriers. Eastbound Frontage Road Lane and On-Ramp Closures

Sunday, Aug. 12, through Thursday, Aug. 16: One lane will be closed on the SH 358 eastbound frontage road east of Weber Road. In addition, the on-ramp east of Everhart Road will be closed. Drivers wishing to enter eastbound SH 358 must use the on-ramp east of South Staples Street. Improvements to the traffic signals at the SH 358 frontage road intersection at Bear Lane are scheduled to continueThursday, Aug. 16, through Friday, Aug. 17, between approximately 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. The intersection will remain open, though motorists should be aware of road crews in the area.

The speed limit in the construction area is 55 mph on the mainlanes and 40 mph on the frontage road. Traffic fines double in work zones when workers are present.
