Tony Morris, 41, has been named publisher of the Nueces County Record Star, replacing John Bowers.

Morris currently serves as a regional publisher for American Consolidated Media, the Record Star's parent company, with management responsibilities over the daily Alice Echo-News Journal and weeklies The Freer Press, The Kingsville Journal, Orange Grove Journal and The Premont Journal.

He will continue serving in that role in addition to his new duties in Robstown.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Robstown and Calallen communities as publisher of the Record Star," Morris said. "This newspaper has a proud history of serving western Nueces County and I am committed to continuing this fine tradition. With the talented staff we have in place, I will have a very easy job."

Morris has a long history in the newspaper industry, beginning with the San Diego, California, Union Tribune as a paper carrier when he was 12 years old to owning his own newspaper company.

"I've worked in newspapers all my life and I look forward to bringing that experience to help the Record Star continue being a strong voice for the community," he said.

The Record Star's offices will also be changing, moving to Main Avenue in June.

Plans are also in the works to provide expanded news content, increased area-wide sports coverage and the addition of several specialty publications, all in the near future, Morris said.

Morris may be contacted by email at or by telephone at (361) 701-2689.
