A man accused of causing the hit-and-run death of a Robstown woman last year has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Thirty-eight-year-old Rafael Cardenas Camacho appeared before 105th District Court Judge Manuel Banales on Monday to plead not guilty in the death of 59-year-old Sandra Zarafontis of Robstown last year. Camacho had also been re-indicted on April 20 for the crime.

Prosecutor Jason Espinoza said the re-indictment was necessary because the language in the original indictment needed to be changed to read that Camacho's actions caused the death of Zarafontis.

Camacho is now facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted on the count of failure to stop and render aid.
