The Robstown school board unanimously approved the termination of a Seale Junior High School teacher last week after the woman reportedly abandoned her position.

Superintendent Roberto Garcia said special education teacher Teresa Gilbert abandoned her position more than a month ago, but did not want to resign because she had a grievance pending against the school district.

Garcia recommended her termination, and the school board voted 5-0 at its April 15 meeting to terminate Gilbert.

Board members Rosendo Espinoza and Jerry Gonzalez were not at the meeting.

In other business, the board approved five teacher resignations and extended the contracts of every administrator for one year.

All administrators will stay in their current positions for next school year, Garcia said.
