A plot of land near the Nueces County Airport in Robstown may be leased to a local farmer.
Nueces County Commissioners last week approved the selection of Keith Skoruppa of Robstown to lease about 122 acres of county-owned land adjacent to the airport for three years.
Purchasing agent Elsa Saenz said in November, after a meeting in which the method of procurement had been approved, that the land will be leased for agricultural purposes only, just as it has in previous years, but must go out for bids every time the lease expires.
The land had previously been leased to Boyd Liska Farms to plant cotton and milo. Liska did bid for the property again this year, but was outbid by Skoruppa by more than $5,000.
Skoruppa submitted a bid of $25,542 for three years, while Liska bid $20,532 for the same duration.
It was not immediately clear what Skoruppa would grow on the land. Repeated calls to Skoruppa or Liska were not returned as of Monday.
Saenz said a final agreement between the county and Skoruppa may be presented to Commissioners Court at its Jan. 23 meeting.
