It's that time of the year for Girl Scout cookies.
The Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas Corpus Christi Service Unit will be having a Cookie Rally on Friday at St. Peter's Church located at 3901 Violet Road, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to get the girls excited about selling Girl Scout cookies, organizers said.
Michelle Leeman Martinez, director of communications, said the cookie sale is the Girl Scout program that more girls participate in than any other activity.
Martinez said the Girl Scout Cookie Sale is a program that is twofold. First it helps girls develop a wide range of skills such as leadership, entrepreneurship, money management, decision-making, planning, goal-setting, interpersonal skills, teamwork and many more.
These skills are best learned when a girl is an active participant in all aspects of the sale, she added.
There will be eight different varieties of Girl Scout cookies for sale: Lemon Chalet Cremes, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, New Dulce de Leche, Sugar-Free Chocolate Chip, Tagalongs and Thin Mints. The cookies will cost $3.50 per box.
The Girl Scout Cookie Sale begins Saturday, during which Girl Scouts will be going door to door and taking orders, and ends March 8. Cookie booth sales begin Feb. 21.
