Submissions are being accepted for the Ninth annual Visionarios Youth Art Contest, which is scheduled to be held Jan. 31 at the Art Museum of South Texas.

The Visionarios Youth Art Contest is open to students from grades 1-12 and supports student achievement by promoting literary and artistic proficiency. This year's theme is "Reflecting on the Gulf Coast," focusing on the unique people, landscape, culture and heritage of the Coastal Bend.

Winners will receive special recognition and cash awards, ranging from $25 to $100, depending on place. Past participants and winners have included students from schools in western Nueces County, including the Robstown, Calallen and Tuloso-Midway independent school districts.

Categories for grades 1-5 include wet media, which is liquid applied with a brush, or dry media, done with pencil, ink, marker, printmaking or a collage.

Categories for grades 6-12 include wet and dry media, as well as photography/digital art.

The deadline for the 2010 Visionarios entries is Jan. 13, for high school and middle school students, and Jan. 14 for elementary school entries. Winners will be honored at an awards presentation on Visionarios Family Day on Jan. 31, with all artwork being put on display from Jan. 31 to Feb. 28.
