A local Boy Scout is hoping to get the community's help in completing his Eagle Scout project - the construction of a Sept. 11 memorial at the Centennial Park in downtown Robstown.
The project will consist of two oak trees representing the Twin Towers and a five-sided sandstone boulder that will represent the Pentagon. An area of grass will represent where Flight 93 came to rest, and a flag pole and bronze plaque on a granite pedestal will represent the nation's strength.
Leo Rendon said he chose this memorial for his Eagle Scout project to benefit his hometown community and remind future generations of the nation's resolve and "God's grace."
Leo is responsible for gathering all funds necessary to complete the project and will be holding several fundraisers throughout the next few weeks. Donations will also be accepted.
Donations may be sent to Leo Rendon at 109 Whitewing Street in Robstown, Texas, 78380. Checks should be made payable to "Boy Scout Troop 10." For more information, call Scoutmaster Raul Elizondo at (361) 767-0369.
