The Robstown Independent School District's 21st Century after school program and the Nueces County Pct. 5 Constable's office are asking the public to help "Load the Bus" this Saturday with school supplies for needy children.
The event will be held Saturday in the parking lot of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Store, located at 306 W. Avenue J in Robstown, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Volunteers with the 21st Century after school program and the constable's office will be on hand at the event to take donated school supplies, which will be placed in a school bus in the lot.
Rey Moreno, with the 21st Century program, said he is hoping to build on a strong turnout at last year's inaugural event.
"It was incredible," Moreno said. "(Supplies) go to the students at all the campuses in Robstown."
Moreno estimated 500 students in the district received supplies through the program in its first year.
Supplies are donated to students on an as-needed basis throughout the year by the principal and a coordinator at each of the district's campuses.
