The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality issued a $4,000 fine against Nueces Electric Cooperative Inc. earlier this month, for several violations related to the company's underground petroleum storage tanks.

According to TCEQ documentation, the violations were found during a routine investigation conducted in November at the company's refueling facility on Main Avenue in Robstown.

The violations included a number of procedural problems, such as not renewing required certification, failure to properly reconcile inventory records and failure to conduct required inspections.

The total fine assessed by the TCEQ was $4,131, although $826 of that fine was deferred because the company agreed to an expedited settlement.

According to TCEQ documentation, officials with Nueces Electric Cooperative Inc. have obtained the proper certification for the underground storage tanks and have begun conducting inventory reviews and inspections as required.
