The Texas Business and Education Coalition recently recognized Calallen East Primary as an Honor Roll School.
Being named a TBEC Honor Roll school is the most prestigious academic award given in Texas, TBEC former board chairman Jack Lowe said.
"Schools get on our honor roll the old fashioned way - they earn it," Lowe said.
TBEC identifies Honor Roll schools by analyzing three years of performance data for every public school in Texas. A TBEC Honor Roll school must have a high percentage of students meeting state standards on every TAKS test for three consecutive years.
Greer Parker, principal at East Primary, said the recognition belonged to the teachers at the school as well as the students.
"I feel very honored to work with the teachers at East," Parker said. "Their love and dedication to their students are what make this school such a phenomenal success."
TBEC Honor Roll schools also have the highest percentage of students performing at the state's most rigorous standard-commended-in every subject, Lowe said. The selection criteria also considers the school's demographics, number of students tested and grade levels.
