The first ever Coastal Bend Day of Giving proved to be a tremendous success.
More than 1,400 individual donations were made online during the 24-hour campaign. They raised over $260,000 for 25 nonprofits at the forefront of serving those most at risk in the South Texas region. Combined with the $150,000 challenge match from nine donor partners, over $400,000 will immediately be put into the community where it will do the most good to help those in need.
Kent Williams, President and CEO of the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, a donor partner, remarked on the success of the day.
"In one word, awesome. I never doubted that the community would respond to the appeal; my only concern was that we could make people aware of the Coastal Bend Day of Giving," he said. " Thanks to our many partners, alerting and engaging the community was not a problem."
Catrina Wilson, President of the United Way of the Coastal Bend, another donor partner, agreed.
"The Day of Giving simply exemplifies the generous spirit of the Coastal Bend," she said. "Our community is committed to making this a better place and when given the opportunity, people respond to meet community needs."
Foster Angels of South Texas, which helps to fulfill many needs for foster children in this area, was a nonprofit partner in the Day of Giving.
"Everyone at Foster Angels is honored to be a part of the Coastal Bend Day of Giving; this could not have come at a better time," Jennifer Starr, executive director of Foster Angels, said. "We're really impressed with the overwhelming support of the community - it's great that people have come together to help our kids and others in need."
Another nonprofit partner, Peewee's Pet Adoption World, has seen a dramatic increase in the demand for its services.
"We're eternally grateful to the community for coming out to help the homeless - animals and people," said Ernie Cochran, Shelter Director.
Leon Loeb, Chairman of the Board of the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, summed it up.
"I am proud of all of the people who worked hard to make the Coastal Bend Day of Giving a success," he said. "It was a great day for the Coastal Bend."
