Wearing caps and gowns of Robstown red, the 2009 graduating class of Robstown High School walked onto the field at Cotton Picker Stadium for the final time as students Friday night.

Dr. Felicia Castro Villarreal, daughter of Robstown baseball coach Steve Castro, is a 1999 graduate of Robstown High School and recently accepted a position as a professor with the University of Texas at San Antonio. As one of the keynote speakers Friday night, Villarreal encouraged the students to work hard and continue the school theme, "First, you have to believe."

"You are graduating at a unique juncture in our nation's history, a crossroads of sorts," Villarreal said. "But a crossroad is not a dead end, it is a choice, and our uncertainty will be the foundation of your opportunity."

Speaking before approximately 180 of his fellow graduates, Valedictorian Michael Hinojosa said they would forever share a common bond.

"A great future awaits us, as long as we are willing to work for it," Hinojosa said. "Make this life become all that you want it to, but put principle over progress. Always keep your dreams big, brave and bright."
