The City of Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department will be offering four aquatics certification training courses during the Spring 2009 season.

The water safety instructor course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to organize and conduct courses in swimming and water safety, including learning to swim, parent and child aquatics, basic water rescue, and water safety presentations.

The course will run March 14, 15, 21 and 22, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Corpus Christi Natatorium. Registration will be offered Feb. 23-March 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at City Hall, located at 1201 Leopard Street, on the third floor, Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department.

Students must be at least 16 years old and pass the skill test that will be held prior to the class.

The cost is $150 per participant (includes book and materials). There will be a $25 late fee applied to persons who register after the registration deadline.

The lifeguarding course is designed to teach students the duties and responsibilities of lifeguards to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies and procedures to carry them out in a professional manner and certifies participant in lifeguarding/first aid, CPR/AED for lifeguards, oxygen administration, and bloodborne pathogens training.

Students must be at least 15 years old and pass the skill test that will be held prior to the class. The cost is $150 per participant (includes book and materials). There will be a $25 late fee applied to persons who register after the registration deadline.
