Music will come alive on May 10, at 7 p.m., in the Robstown High School Auditorium when the Robstown High School Band, "The Pride of Robstown," presents its final concert for the 2009-10 school year.
Both the Honor and Symphonic Bands, made up of 90 musicians, will present music which they have spent the spring semester preparing. The Symphonic Band will feature an east African style song entitled "Serengeti Dreams," utilizing an unusual percussion instrument called the djembe.
The Honor Band will present a portion of its award winning University Interscholastic League Concert Contest music, for which they won a Sweepstakes First Division Trophy in March. Senior flutist Heather Garcia, a South Texas Area Band Member, will perform a solo entitled "La Chasse", or "The Chase," with the band.
On clarinet will be this year's Texas All-State Band member, sophomore Hannah Robles, on "Concerto No. 3 for Clarinet." Presentation of the Robstown Band's 2010 graduating senior musicians will occur during the concert.
The bands are under the direction of Edward Avila, Director of Bands for the Robstown Independent School District, and Assistant High School Director Steven Garcia.
The May 10 concert is free and the public is invited.
