American Ecology Corporation announced recently that its facility in Robstown was named by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration as a "Star among Stars" for its exemplary safety record.
OSHA -is a part of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The award was presented to U.S. Ecology Texas on April 9, 2009, by Region VI OSHA Administrator, Dean McDaniel and Corpus Christi OSHA Area Director, Mike Rivera.
U.S. Ecology Texas has been a Star site in the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) since 2006. The "Stars among Stars" program recognizes VPP participants with injury rates and lost time rates that are at least 50 percent below national averages.
U.S. Ecology's injury rate in 2008 was 70 percent below national averages, and it had no lost time incidents at all.
All 55 employees at U.S. Ecology Texas participate in the safety program.
Cathy Skurow, the site's General Manager, said, "Health and Safety programs work well when everyone joins in. That's our attitude here, and I'm very proud of our employees. This is their award; it recognizes their safe work habits."
All four American Ecology Corporation sites participate in OSHA health and safety programs and have been recognized as a partner with OSHA in Texas, Idaho, Nevada and Washington State.
