A ceremony was held at Robstown's Centennial Plaza May 7 to honor a group of licensed vocational and registered nurses in celebration of National Nurses Week.

The holiday has been celebrated May 6 through 12 since 1994, as designated by the American Nurses Association board of directors.

District 34 state Rep. Abel Herrero was on hand at the event and read a proclamation passed by the Robstown City Council in honor of National Nurses Week.

"I think it's very important that we continue to recognize the contributions that nurses make to the care of individuals and the contributions they make to our community, not just the week of National Nurses Week, but on a continuous basis," said District 34 state Rep. Abel Herrero, who also read a proclamation at the event.

The eight nurses honored last week are employed by Dor-An's Home Health Service and Saenz Home Health Service Inc.
