Two fallen Robstown soldiers are being honored this month in a special exhibit at Texas A&M University-Kingsville

The exhibit at the Ben Bailey Art Gallery at Texas A&M University-Kingsville honors local soldiers who have died since 2003 in Iraq and Afghanistan. Dr. Arnold Gonzales, community leader and alumnus from Texas A&I University created the exhibit, "Memorial Tribute: Fallen Heroes." The exhibit features 22 portrait drawings in brass frames of the 21 men and one woman from South Texas including Hector Rene Perez, cousin of Gonzales' wife, Mary Alice Berlanga Gonzales.

Gonzales got the idea for the local exhibit after seeing the Faces of the Fallen exhibit at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. The local exhibit was first shown at the American Bank Center at a special evening honoring fallen heroes from the Coastal Bend. After the exhibit's final presentation, the portraits will be given to the soldiers' families.

The exhibit continues at the gallery through Sept. 26. The Ben Bailey Art Gallery is located near the corner of Santa Gertrudis and Armstrong Streets. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Gonzales is a Corpus Christi native. He attended Del Mar College and earned a bachelor's degree in art and education from Texas A&I University. He received his master's degree in education administration from Eastern Michigan University and a doctorate in education administration from University of Michigan.

He taught in the Corpus Christi Independent School District, was Texas State Representative for District 48 for six years, Texas Deputy Land Commissioner for seven years and a Corpus Christi City Councilman for four years.
