U.S. Rep. Solomon Ortiz will host his annual Coastal Bend Veterans and Military Summit Sept. 13 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.
The summit, held in conjunction with the city of Corpus Christi from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will include workshops with Veterans Affairs representatives on benefits and enrollment, business, education, health and mental health, and transitional assistance.
It will also include exhibits about services available to veterans in the areas of employment, education, healthcare, social services, business, housing and transportation.
There will also be a job fair and health fair offering free glaucoma and blood pressure screenings and other services for veterans. The summits are free for area veterans, service members and their families.
Ortiz has organized the military summits in South Texas for the past six years to provide veterans a "one-stop shop" to navigate the numerous services available to veterans and to provide updates on congressional issues affecting veterans and the military.
"This summit provides an excellent opportunity for area veterans and active-duty members to meet with people who can offer detailed explanations of the services available to them in the Coastal Bend," Ortiz said. "One of the main priorities is to get an accurate count of area veterans so the government can provide proper services."
Ortiz, who serves on the House Armed Services Committee, is a veteran of the U.S. Army. His 27th congressional district includes four military installations and a large population of veterans and active-duty service members.
