The Regional Transportation Authority hosted a press conference Friday to unveil its newest bus stop at Tots & Teens at 500 E. Avenue J in Robstown.

Robstown Mayor Rodrigo Ramon Jr., Dr. Edward Borchard, and RTA officials spoke briefly speak on the importance of safety and support of children in the community.

Borchard, a pediatric physician, recently built a unique pediatric facility in Robstown. He said he realized many of his patients utilized public transportation and he saw the need to improve the bus stop located outside Tots & Teens.

Borchard contacted RTA general manager Ricardo Sánchez to better utilize approximately 6,300 square feet of land for a safer bus stop.

Sánchez said he knew the project would require a collaborative effort so RTA staff contacted various schools in Robstown for assistance. St. Anthony's Catholic School and Lotspeich, Hattie Martin and San Pedro elementary schools agreed to take on the tile project.

The Antonio E. Garcia Arts Education Center also agreed to donate kiln services to complete the processing of the tiles. The final phase of the project was completed in December with the installation of 500 artistic tiles.
