The National Junior Honor Society at the Driscoll Independent School District recently sponsored a book drive that netted over 1,000 books for the Early Bird Readers Book Drive in Corpus Christi.
The second grade classes at Driscoll Elementary donated the most books, with the first graders coming in a close second.
New and gently used books for children aged up to 5 years old were brought in by students from all grades at Driscoll. These books will be donated to libraries that will then get them in the hands of older students who will then be able to read them with their younger siblings.
A lifelong love of literacy is the chief aim of this program, school officials said.
NJHS sponsor Judi Gonzalez, together with other NJHS students, delivered the Driscoll donations to KIII-TV studios in Corpus Christi.
