Restaurants and other local businesses will be on display Tuesday, as the Northwest Business Association holds its annual "Taste of the Northwest" event at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds.
The NWBA sponsors the event each year as a way to highlight local businesses and to raise money for scholarships given to area students.
As of Tuesday, 13 food vendors had signed up to participate, and 17 businesses had reserved booths at the RMB Fairgrounds Ballroom.
Warren Albrecht, an NWBA board member and organizer for the Taste of the Northwest, said the annual expo is a great way for local residents to learn more about the businesses in their community.
"This is an opportunity to see what some of the local food vendors have as specialties in the Northwest area," Albrecht said. "In addition, many area businesses will have their products and services on display."
Albrecht also said space is still available for any business that has not yet signed up, and registration will be open until the end of business Friday.
The organization is also still accepting sponsors for the Taste of the Northwest, as well as donations for door prizes and a silent auction.
Tickets for the event are $15 each. Tickets may be purchased at the door on Oct. 12, or ahead of time on the NWBA's Web site, www.nwbacc.org.
Last year, the organization was able to give out $1,500 in scholarships to students in the Robstown, Calallen and Tuloso-Midway school districts with funds raised through the Taste of the Northwest.
This year's event was originally scheduled for September, but was postponed due to widespread flooding in the Coastal Bend.
The Taste of the Northwest will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown.
