The Corpus Christi Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred in the Calallen area shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Capt. Todd Green, a public information officer with the department, said Tuesday the shooting death occurred in the 10000 block of Teague Lane in Calallen early Saturday morning.

According to police department reports, the victim, identified as James Quiroz, 30, was in an apartment at that location with a 36 year old woman and his young child.

"There was a knock at the door, he went to answer the door and the suspect fired at least three rounds through the door," Green said. "One of the rounds struck him in the head."

Quiroz was transported to CHRISTUS Spohn Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No one else in the apartment was injured in the shooting.

An autopsy was performed by the Nueces County Medical Examiner this week, Green said, but detectives were withholding the results of that autopsy while the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, Green said.

Detectives have several leads in the shooting, but no suspects have been named by the department.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to contact the Corpus Christi Police Department's Robbery and Homicide Division at 361-886-2840.
