Robstown police July 3 executed a search and arrest warrant that led to the arrest of two Robstown residents.

Police said Joe Angel Zavala and his common-law wife Denise Diaz were both arrested after police found about 56 grams of heroin inside their home, along with other drug paraphernalia.

When officers arrived at the home, which is in the 800 block of Garcia Street, the couple was with their three children in front of the residence.

Both were taken into custody without incident and the children were allowed to leave with their aunt, Ruby Diaz, police said.

The heroin has a street value of about $2,000.

Both suspects were transported to the Nueces County Jail, with Zavala facing charges of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony.

Diaz was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony.

Both suspects have since been released on bond, jail officials said.

Police said Tuesday that the charges would be upgraded, however, since the suspects' house is located directly across the street from St. Mary's Church.
