A Corpus Christi non-profit group has teamed up with Nueces County to help manage money donated for the new county library.
Nueces County Commissioners last week unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding agreement with the Coastal Bend Community Foundation to "facilitate the purchase of library books and computer equipment for the Keach Family Library."
County officials said concern had been raised about individuals and businesses who were donating money towards the "Buy a Book, Launch a Dream" campaign and whether they would be able to receive a tax deduction since the county is not designated as a non-profit entity. With the agreement with the CBCF, donors will be able to receive a tax deduction.
The structure of the agreement allows the county to purchase new books and computer equipment, then take the invoice to the CBCF and be reimbursed for that purchase, assuming the funds are available, county officials said.
The deal between the county and the CBCF has a term of two years with an option for a third.
