Christie Alice Benefield of College Station, and James Wise Batey of College Station were married on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Robstown. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Betty Tuttle of the First United Methodist Church and the Rev. Will Rice of Grace United Methodist Church.
Christie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Benefield of Corpus Christi, and the granddaughter of Roy Gillespie and the late Dorothy Gillespie of Robstown, and the late Harry and Delite Watson of Sequin.
James is the son of Mr. Thomas Batey and the late Carolyn Batey of Houston.
Matrons of honor were Jennifer George of Austin, and Leslie Kirk of Corpus Christi. Bridesmaids were friends of the bride, Erin Raulie of College Station, and Veronica Cepak of Dallas. They wore black sleeveless empire waist dresses with flaired skirt. Each carried a single red rose adorned with greenery and red ribbon.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents, escorted by her father.
The bride wore a white satin corset ball gown with beaded lace appliqu/s, organza pick-up skirt, and lace-up back, with a chapel length train. The mantilla style veil was trimmed with beaded lace appliqu/s.
She carried a cascade bouquet or red and white roses and stephanotis. In her shoe, she wore the same six pence that her grandmother wore on her wedding, 60 years earlier.
The best man was David Kirk of Corpus Christi. The groomsmen were friends of the groom, Michael George of Austin, Howard Wood of Conroe, Brock Girtman of Houston, and Mark Combs of Dallas.
A reception was held at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds.
After a wedding trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, they will reside in College Station.
The bride is a graduate of Tuloso-Midway High School, and Texas A&M University, College Station. The bridegroom is a graduate of Memorial High School in Houston, and will graduate December 2008, from Texas A&M University, College Station.
