Residents receiving economic stimulus checks being distributed by the U.S. government now have somewhere other than a bank to cash them for free.
H-E-B announced May 8 that it would provide the opportunity to cash their stimulus checks free of charge at any of its business centers.
"Our aim is to make it as convenient as possible for Texans to gain access to their money to begin using it right away to benefit their families," said Winell Herron, H-E-B group vice president of public affairs and diversity.
The store usually charges a maximum fee of $2 for the cashing of all standard government checks, such as Social Security, in amounts no greater than $1,500.
However, the grocery chain is waiving the standard fee and is doubling the monetary limit for standard government checks, which is what the stimulus checks are being considered as, to $3,000.
