Corpus Christi Mayor Henry Garrett has proclaimed this week as Corpus Christi Tourism Week to coincide with National Tourism Week and Texas Tourism Week at noon in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
The announcement came Tuesday ahead of one of the nation's most traveled holidays, Memorial Day weekend.
City officials said in a written statement "travel is at the heart of America's economic and national security."
Corpus Christi has contributed $76 million in state and local taxes from tourism.
Locally, tourism has injected some $964.4 million into the Corpus Christi economy with a total annual economic impact of $1.1 billion, generating one-tenth of the area economy.
