The Tuloso-Midway High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps unit recently held its annual "Warrior Spirit" Picnic at West Guth Park.

Over 50 cadets attended the Aug. 15 event, including many new cadets just starting high school. They ate hot dogs, hamburgers and watermelon. The cadets also played football and had the traditional water balloon toss. During this event, cadets paired off to throw balloons full of water. After each successive toss, they would back up until the balloon ultimately popped.

The seniors used the extra balloons to make sure that every body got wet in a bout of good humor, Cdr. Russ McPadden said.

"The picnic was fun because you got to meet new people in ROTC," freshman John Ornelas, of Robstown High School, said. Students from RHS make up a portion of the TMHS Warrior Company.

"The good thing about the picnic was I got to throw water balloons at the lower classmen," senior Juan Garcia said.

At the end of the picnic, the cadets cleaned their area of the park, making sure that they left it better than they found it, McPadden said.
