The Northwest Business Association recognized several local businesses at a special meeting last week and honored the outgoing president of the organization.

Diane Casso, owner of Arbors Nursery and Garden Center, received the New Business of the Year award.

"We kind of consider all of our customers friends," Casso said of her company's business philosophy.

Ocean In Motion Car Wash was given the Small Business of the Year award, which was accepted by owner Geri Calk.

"I really appreciate this award," Calk said. "We are very fortunate. The whole community- all of northwest Corpus Christi, Robstown, Orange Grove- everybody has supported us and participated with us."

Bruce and Randa Harvey accepted the Corporation of the Year award on behalf of their company, H&V Equipment Service.

"I'm looking very forward to working with the board," said Randa Harvey, who is also the incoming board secretary for the NWBA. "We're looking forward to continuing with it."

Lisa Cobb, of LyondellBasell Industries, was selected as Advocate of the Year by the organization.

"We thank you, we're proud that our company has allowed us to do things to help promote all the things we do out here to promote the northwest," Cobb said.

The NWBA also recognized outgoing president Rome Gregorio, of Bay Area Athletics, for his service. Speaking to the audience last week, Gregorio encouraged members to continue working together to seek the best for northwest Nueces County.

"There's a need for this organization to continue to grow to meet the needs of those in this community," Gregorio said. "As an organization, we need to continue to build and expand upon the relationships that we have established with one another."
