The Corpus Christi City Council approved moving forward with the design phase of the Park Road 22 bridge.

The structure, approved in the 2008 bond program, is a key piece in the future development of a new Schliterbahn water resort on Padre Island, according to previous statements made by local landowner /developer Paul Schexnailder.

The overall development would create not only a water park area, but create an adjoining pedestrian village, with marina development. The Park Road 22 bridge would provide passage for pedestrian traffic over a canal system that has yet to be built by the developers. The developers behind the project are Asset Development Corp. and Gulf Shores Joint Venture of Corpus Christi. The council also authorized a professional engineering contract with Urban Engineering Inc. of an amount not to exceed $1.07 million for the Park Road 22 bridge project.
