Corpus Christi police officers arrested one man Thursday following a neighborhood pursuit off U.S. Highway 77.

Shortly after 1 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at the Radio Shack in the 4100 block of Highway 77. Upon their arrival, the subject, later identified as Able Rodriguez, 36, had already left the scene. Officers were able to determine Rodriguez left in a stolen car based on a license plate check, CCPD Captain Ed Shannon said.

A 1991 Pontiac Bonneville was found during a search of the area in front of the Game Stop in the 13000 block of Northwest Blvd. As officers approached the vehicle on foot, Rodriguez exited the store, ignored law enforcement orders to stop and fled the scene, Shannon said.

Rodriguez drove off eastbound on Northwest Boulevard. Other officers joined the search and were flagged down by local residents who said Rodriguez was in apartment complex located on Leopard Street and Hearn Road. Officers reportedly located the vehicle parked at the complex.

As they searched the complex, police observed Rodriguez riding in a second vehicle as a front seat passenger, Shannon said. The vehicle was stopped and Rodriguez was arrested without incident. Property in the recovered stolen vehicle were items taken from the Game Stop, Shannon said.

Rodriguez was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest and theft.

“At this time, charges will not be filed on the female who was driving the vehicle Rodriguez was arrested in,” Shannon said in a prepared statement.
