Recent Calallen High School graduate Amanda Haven has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Coastal Bend Restaurant Association.

Two other Corpus Christi-area high school students, Vanessa Bedoya of Carroll High School and Walter Moya of Miller High School, were also awarded $5,000 scholarships by the CBRA because they are outstanding high school students and because the students, or their parents, are employed at CBRA member restaurants.

Amanda's father, Mike Haven, works for Labatt Food Services along Southern Minerals Road.

The three $5,000 scholarships were presented to the students last week during an awards banquet at the Bar-B-Que Man Restaurant and are intended to give the students a head start in their collegiate careers.

"CBRA's mission is to promote excellence through education," said CBRA president George Pollakis. "We are proud the restaurants of the Coastal Bend can give so much back to the youth of our community."

Funds raised each year for the scholarships come from the CBRA's annual golf tournament that is held in late-September. The next tournament is Sept. 29 and CBRA is currently seeking sponsors and players.
