The Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce and Reliant Energy hosted the third annual Spirit of Business Awards Aug. 6 at the Omni Bayfront Hotel where 13 awards were presented to area businesses and leaders.

The Spirit of Business Awards recognized the business community in several categories.

In the Chamber Awards category, Robert Tamez of CITGO received the Chairman's Choice Award; Joe Adame of Adame & Associates received the Henry B. Baldwin Award; and Randy Reed of Outside Dimensions received the Chamber Ambassador of the Year honor.

Outstanding Business Awards were given based on geographic location.

McLeod Creative was selected for the Uptown/Downtown/Central area; Sylvia's Pastries of 9744 Leopard St. was named the winner for the Northside/Calallen/Annaville area; Heavin & Associates Insurance Inc. won the Southside area; Halo Flight was chosen for the Westside area; and The Office Lounge was named the winner for the North Padre Island/Flour Bluff area.

Ruben A. Bonilla of Farmers Insurance won the Young Business Person of the Year award. Jim Moloney won the Business Advocate of the Year award. Group One Real Estate won the Small Business of the Year award. The Corpus Christi Hooks were named the Corporate Citizen of the Year and Sam L.
