Corpus Christi police responded Friday to a domestic disturbance, but instead found a 40-year-old Annaville man with a gunshot wound.

Lt. Bill Breedlove, with the Corpus Christi Police Department, said officers responded to a domestic disturbance call Friday at about 8 p.m at a home in the 4100 block of Violet Road.

Instead, police found a 40-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest, Breedlove said. The man's common-law wife, 73-year-old Betty Thompson, has since been arrested with shooting the man with a large caliber handgun.

Another man who lived in the house with the couple was questioned by police, but was later released, police said.

The victim, who had not been identified as of Monday, was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital, but is expected to recover, Breedlove said. Thompson was still being held at the Nueces County Jail as of Monday afternoon.
