Army Reserve Pvt. Joseph Gonzalez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
Gonzalez is the son of Jenaro Gonzalez and Gloria Gonzalez, both of Bishop.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Pvt. William P. Owen Jr. graduated Oct. 5 from Marine Corps basic training at Marines Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif. Owen is the son of William and Mary Owen of Calallen and a 2007 graduate of Calallen High School. While at MCRD, Owen received a rating of expert in marksmanship training. He will return to San Diego to complete infantry training then will go to Pensacola, Fla. for aviation mechanic school.
