Robert F. ("Hank") Wright died on August 7 at 92 in Holmdel, New Jersey. Mr. Wright was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Amerada-Hess Corp. from 1985 to 1995. He joined Hess Oil Corp. in 1963 when Hess acquired the Delhi-Taylor Oil Corp. refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In 1966 Hess transferred Mr. Wright to its St. Croix, U.S.V.I. facility where he was instrumental in building its refinery which remained the largest in the world for years. As an Amerada-Hess Senior Vice President in the 1970s and early 1980s, Mr. Wright was responsible for all its refining and distribution operations.
Mr. Wright was born in Robstown, Texas in 1925 to Edwin Daniel and Kathryn Smith Wright. He was awarded the Purple Heart for service in the Korean War as an artillery forward observer with the Second Infantry Division at the Battle of Wonju. In 1955 Mr. Wright graduated from Texas A&I University with a Chemical Engineering degree.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife Valerie, children George W. Wright, Kathryn Weddington and Robert F. Wright, Jr., three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
