Sarah Mauguarett Griffith Massey, born to John Ellis Griffith Sr. and Lettie White Griffith on Oct. 16, 1916, in Kingsville died on May 30, 2010 at the age of 93. Sarah graduated from Kingsville High School and received her nursing degree in Houston. At that time, she moved to Robstown and was a nurse at the Robstown Hospital. Sarah was a charter member of Central Baptist church, where she was a teacher and active in the youth programs and also later taught a senior adult women's class. When Sarah's children were young, she was a troop leader for Brownies and the Girl Scouts. She also helped with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scout Troops. For many years Sarah hosted in her home the annual Mexican Food Dinner for high school students the night of the Cotton Picker Homecoming Bonfire. Sarah was always willing to open her home for teas, showers and youth socials. She also volunteered at the Red Cross.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother at birth, John Ellis Griffith Jr.; and her husband, J. L. Massey.
She is survived by one brother, Tommy (Dottie) Griffith; four children, Kay Massey, Sue Bullock, Jim Massey III, and Becky (Tracy) Robertson; seven grandchildren, Brian (Stacie) Bullock, Michelle (Robert) Moody, Tommy (Lisa) Robertson, Toby (Cassie) Robertson, Stacy (Robert) Cox, Jim Massey IV and Mikalah (Jarrod) Gaither; and nine great-grandchildren, Allyse Bullock, Brittney Beres, Dillon Moody, Ethan Cox, Ian Cox, Haylie Bullock, Courtney Robertson, Ashley Robertson and Alyssa Cox.
A Funeral Service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at River Hills Baptist Church. Interment was private.
Pallbearers were Brian Bullock, Tommy Robertson, Toby Robertson, Jim Massey IV, Robert Moody, Jarod Gaither and Robert Cox.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or River Hills Baptist Church building fund.
