Jose A. Barrientos, 68, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. He was born on Nov. 27, 1942 in Robstown to Frutoso and Hortencia Cano Barrientos. He was a veteran for the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era, a member of the DAV veterans' association, and a member of the Tejano Democratic group. He was a Catholic and a member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. He retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot after 29 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pam Barrientos of Corpus Christi; one son, Richard Barrientos of Austin; two brothers, Robert (Noemi) Barrientos of Corpus Christi, and Hector (Margie) Barrientos of Abilene; two sisters, Lucy (Julian) Velasquez and Dalia Garcia, both of Robstown; special friends, Becky and Frank Quinonez of Corpus Christi, and Dr. Roger Pena of Katy; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Ramon Funeral Home Chapel in Robstown. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Robstown. Interment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors in Robstown.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Eric Rivera, Michael Estrada, Robby Barrientos, Michael Garcia, Daniel Estrada and Edward Estrada.
Honorary pallbearers were Steve Rivera and Julian Velasquez Jr.
In leau of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
