Manuela S. "Nellie" Gonzalez, 83, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007.

She was born Dec. 10, 1923 in Robstown to Maria Hernandez and Florencio Segura.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a member of Club Padre de Familia. As a young girl, she attended St. Anthony Catholic School and was a salutatorian of her 6th grade class. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She utilized her unique talents by sewing all the school uniforms, prom, senior dances, and wedding dresses for her daughters.

She volunteered her time at the Little League concession stand and was an Eagle Scout mother for her son, Roberto "Bobby" Gonzalez. She and her husband, Roberto "Beto" Gonzalez, were members of the Nueces County Senior Citizens Center on Avenue B and 6th Street prior to 1987, where she sewed aprons and donated them to the center to help raise monetary funds. One of her favorite hobbies was missionary Rosaries for the less fortunate. She loved Our Lady of Guadalupe and prayed the Rosary faithfully everyday.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Hernandez; her father, Joaquin Vasquez; her biological father, Florencio Segura; her husband, Roberto "Beto" Gonzalez Sr.; two sons, Roberto "Beto" Gonzalez Jr. and Roberto B. "Bobby" Gonzalez Jr.; her daughter, Selma Diana; grandson, Raul T. "Pinky" Perez; her sisters, Dora Vasquez, Guadalupe "Lupe" Leven and Juanita Anzaldua; brothers Francisco Javier and Pedro Vasquez; her grandmother, Tomas Martinez; and grandfathers, Maximo Martinez and Lazaro Anzaldua.

She is survived by three daughters, Estella (the late Gilbert) Muniz, of Arlington, Sylvia (Raul T.) Perez and Sandra (Dionicio "Don") Ysassi; her daughter-in-law, Gracie Gonzalez; her sisters, Jovita (the late Pablo) Garcia and Beda Rodriguez, all of Robstown; her sisters-in-law, Bessie Solis of San Antonio, Guadalupe "Lupe" Gonzalez of Houston, and Noemi Gonzalez of Robstown; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A Rosary was recited on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Ramon Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary was recited at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass following at 10 a.m. Burial followed at Robstown Memorial Park.
