Howard Slagle Barksdale, 84, of Corpus Christi and a former resident of Bishop died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008.
He was born Dec. 30, 1923 in Bluff City, Ark., to John C. and Edna Mae Slagle Barksdale. Howard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the V.F.W. and the National Rifle Association, worked as an electrician, was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he was a York Rite 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Al Amin Shrine Temple.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ernestine Barksdale, on Aug. 11, 2007.
He is survived by his nieces, Claudia (Bobby R. "Butch") Pullin of Robstown, and Carline Kersey of McAllen; his nephew, Michael (Kathy) Lowrance of Corpus Christi; great-nephews, Bobby Pullin and Blake Lowrance of Corpus Christi; and great-nieces, Rebecca Pullin of Corpus Christi and Kara Lowrance of San Antonio.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside Masonic services followed in Robstown Memorial Park.
