John Kenneth Ryan, 85, passed away, Aug. 28, 2011.

Ken was born Oct. 8, 1925 to Al and Gladys Ryan in Indiahoma, Okla. He was the second of seven children, all boys, and grew up in Weslaco.

Ken joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and was an Iwo Jima survivor. He came home from the war and met his future wife, Naomi Joyce Labar. The couple married Aug. 29, 1946. They were married 60 years.

Ken graduated from the University of Oklahoma and pursued a lifelong career as a geological engineer. He was also deeply religious.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Naomi; brothers, Homer and Richard Ryan; and son-in-law, John Rackley.

He is survived by his wife, Anita, ; daughter, Victoria Rackley, of Corpus Christi; sons, Tim Ryan of Harlingen and Ron (Nita) Ryan of Killeen; grandsons, Shane Rackley and Heath Rackley of Corpus Christi, and Joshua Ryan of Killeen; brothers, Leo Ryan, Bill Ryan, Jack Ryan and Wes Ryan; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial services were conducted Sept. 2, 2011 at River Hills Baptist Church in Calallen, with Bro. Bill Simmons officiating.

Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Odem.
